H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin
Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil, opened on Wednesday, 17 May 2017, the
second international symposium on human resources management in the energy
industry, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on Wednesday and Thursday,
the 17th and 18th of May 2017 at the
Regency Intercontinental Hotel. The seminar was supported by Tamkeen and was
organized by the General Secretariat of the International Energy Forum (IEF),
in cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Energy, and the National Oil and
Gas Authority under the title "Human Resources Challenges, in a Changing
Time in the Global Energy Sector".
The Minister of Oil
inaugurated the symposium by stressing on the importance of training,
development and investment in human resource development in order to improve
the productivity in the institutions. He also emphasized on the importance of
the direct contribution in achieving the managerial desired results in each of
the productive institutions, as well as enabling institutions and companies to
fulfil their mission, accomplish their vision and achieve their goals.
Objectives. The human element is the spine of the productivity process and is
the main source that does not fade away. Therefore, attention should be given
to this element to prepare it well through training, education and development
programs that play an important role in the development and keeping pace with
the workforce in any productive institution.
In the Kingdom of Bahrain,
the clear vision of the wise leadership is to invest in the development of
future leaders and to improve the performance of the workforce through
continuous training and development of management and human resources. This has
a significant contribution to the Kingdom's ranking, as a leading country in
the field of human resource development in the Arab world, and that is
according to the United Nations Annual Report on Human Resources Development.
This symposium is the
second, in a series of human resources seminars organized by the General
Secretariat of the International Energy Forum, where the first symposium took
place in the Qatari capital, Doha. The Kingdom of Bahrain hosted the second
symposium as a culmination of the numerous contacts between the National Oil
and Gas Authority and Tamkeen, and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian
Federation, and the General Secretariat of the International Energy Forum. The
seminar took place in the Kingdom of Bahrain due to its important position in
the region when it comes to hosting such symposiums, especially that a number
of experts, specialists, stakeholders and stakeholders in this sector attend it
and be part of it.
The Deputy Minister of
Energy of the Russian Federation, the Secretary General of the International
Energy Forum and the Director of Human Resources for Planning at Saudi Aramco
spoke at the inaugural session. They discussed the changes that took place
since the first symposium in Doha where they addressed the issue of “Human
Resources Crisis” in the sector Oil.
The seminar discussed the
options that can be followed to attract and retain the necessary human
resources skills in the light of developments in the energy industry. The
contributors who exceeded 100 members from Russia, the GCC countries, companies
from the oil, gas and energy sector in the Kingdom Bahrain, such as Bahrain
National Gas Company (BNAGAS), Aluminum Bahrain (Alba) and other member
countries of the International Energy Forum also discussed many other topics.
