Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, participated in the Roundtable Meeting on the Carbon Management Challenge "Carbon Management: Essential Pillar to Keep 1.5 C Alive".

The meeting was held as part of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The carbon management initiative was launched in April by Joe Biden, President of the United States, at the Major Economics Forum.

The Minister affirmed the importance of this meeting and the initiative in accelerating the technologies of expansion of Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) from the atmosphere, in addition to achieving carbon management on a gigaton scale by 2030.

The meeting discussed the need to close the gap between the current deployment of carbon management, and the requirements of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, as this initiative enables addressing the management of carbon emissions and enhances sustainable practices to reduce climate change.
