Oil Minister attends High-level Event on National Adaptation Plans

 Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dinah, the Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, attended the High-level Event on National Adaptation Plans, themed "Transformation towards accelerated implementation of National Adaptation Plans".
 
The session, chaired by Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change  (UNFCCC), was held on the sidelines of  the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
 
The Minister of Oil and Environment welcomed the announcement of the United Arab Emirates on establishing a $30 billion climate fund to bridge the financing gap, and said it demonstrated the commitment of the UAE to climate action.
Fifty per cent of the fund will be allocated to climate change adaptation projects, while the remainder will be used to mitigate carbon emissions.
 
He stressed the importance of strengthening financial mechanisms and capacity-building initiatives to support countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change in their adaptation efforts.
 
The minister pointed out that bridging the financial gap is crucial to ensuring that the country most vulnerable to the effects of climate change receives the necessary financing urgently, immediately and effectively.
 
He highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s experience in preparing the national investment plan to adapt to of climate change.
 
The Minister of Oil and Environment highlighted the importance of this high-level event in bringing countries together to exchange expertise on on transformative measures to protect societies ,the planet and future generations.
 
The event, attended by high-level representatives from governments, international organisations, NGOs, and the private sector, emphasised the urgent need for swift action to tackle climate change's impacts and the need for countries to enhance their adaptive capacities to protect societies, ecosystems, and economies.
 
The participants pledged their commitment to forming a united front to address adaptation planning needs.
 
The event also discussed innovative approaches, and showcased successful case studies and best practices to inspire and guide countries in their adaptation endeavours.​
