Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, participated in the first annual high-level ministerial round table on just transition, held as part of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The minister affirmed the importance of this session, which is one of the recommendations of the COP27 conference held in Sharm El Sheikh, as well as the importance of discussing a just transition to a low-carbon economy.

He noted that the session reviewed the necessity of finding solutions to mitigate the negative effects of climate change on societies, ensure social justice and inclusiveness, establish the necessary political frameworks, and enhance international cooperation and support to achieve the Paris Agreement in a fair manner for all.

Bin Daina said that the Paris Agreement aims to achieve a balance between addressing climate change and enhancing social justice by promoting just transition through developing and implementing strategies and policies that support this principle, including those aimed at creating jobs in sustainable sectors, developing skills, and strengthening social protection.
