Oil Minister attends G77 + China Summit

Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, has participated in the Group 77 plus China (G77 + China) Leaders Summit, which was held on the sidelines of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28)
 
This summit aims to advance international commitment to dealing with climate change through decisive action, as this summit is the first of its kind to be held on the sidelines of COP.
 
The minister commended the issues addressed during the summit, including the transition to clean energy sources, which is among the most effective ways to address climate change effects, and one of the major topics on the agenda of COP28.
 
António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), announced the establishment of a "Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals".
 
"The Panel will bring together governments, international organizations, industry and civil society to develop common and voluntary principles to guide extractive industries in the years ahead in the name of justice and sustainability," the UN chief said.  
 
The G77 + China Summit affirmed the importance of focusing on the right of developing countries to economic progress, calling for providing them with the necessary financial support.
 
The Group 77 plus China, which represents approximately 80 percent of the world's population, aims to defend their collective economic interests and strengthen their negotiating power at the UN on major international economic issues.
