Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza met Mr. Daniel Yergin, Vice-Chairman of IHS, and co-founder and chairman of Cambridge Energy Research Foundation, who was a keynote speaker in GEO 2016. The meeting was held at Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre. Also present at the meeting was Dr. Ahmed Ali Al Sharyan, General Secretary of the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and Mr. Ali Abdul Jabar Al Sawad, General Manager, Strategies and Planning and a number of oil sector officials.
The Minister wished Dr. Yergin a pleasant stay in the Kingdom of Bahrain and praised his review of the region’s oil and gas scenario. He thanked him for attending the conference as a keynote speaker and providing great ideas and sharing his rich experience in the field of oil, gas and energy.
H.E. Dr. Mirza made a detailed presentation about the organizational structure of the oil and gas sector in Bahrain and about the establishment of the National Oil and Gas Authority as a sole authority in the Kingdom responsible for the oil and gas sector. The Minister also briefly narrated the history of oil in the Kingdom of Bahrain, where it became the first country in the GCC to discover oil in 1932, as well as the country to address key developments and programs in the oil and gas sector.
He also reviewed the government support available in Bahrain for oil and gas development projects and petroleum products and praised the great support provided by the government to the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) towards its new specifications to save energy. They also discussed world oil market, low oil price situation and its impact on the global economy.
Dr. Yergin thanked the Minister and expressed his appreciation to him for the meeting and discussions held about the energy scene in the Kingdom of Bahrain and other topics related to the global market and global energy sector and for his contemporary economic analysis concerning the global energy markets.
Dr. Yergin is a Pulitzer-Prize winning author and leading authority on energy, international politics and economics. He the author of the bestseller The Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World. He is known around the world for his book The Prize: the Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. He was awarded the United States Energy Award for "lifelong achievements in energy and the promotion of international understanding”. He received the Charles Percy Award for Public Service from the Alliance to Save Energy.
