The HRH Prime Minister Delegate Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa Opens ‘International Conference and Exhibition on Chemistry in Industry’

Delegated by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister, His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister on November 21 opened the ‘10th International Conference and Exhibition on Chemistry in Industry’ at the Gulf Convention Centre in Gulf Hotel. The event was organized by the Dhahran Division of American Chemical Society, Saudi Arabian International Chemical Sciences and Saudi Chemical Society in cooperation with the National Oil and Gas Authority.



His Excellency Shaikh Khalid expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister for patronising the key international event, which had a profound impact on its success. The event was organized for the tenth time in a row in Bahrain and the holding this series of specialized conference and exhibition in the country proved the good reputation enjoyed by the Kingdom as a preferred venue for organizing conferences, exhibitions and events at the regional and global levels, he said.



He said the event contributed to promote the exchange of innovation in a variety of topics in chemistry related to petroleum and petrochemical industries, process engineering, especially as the conference focus was on the correlation between oil refineries and petrochemical industry, and the high demand for the chemical industry, as well as encouraging companies in the region to take advantage of modern technology and techniques available to improve production processes and products and the preservation of the surrounding environment.



The conference was held under the theme ‘Sustainable Energy Industry through Innovative Chemistry’ from November 21 to 23 and attended by 400 delegates from the senior executive levels in the oil, and petrochemical industry, and included corporates in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia as well as other local and foreign destinations.



Minister of Oil His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, gave a speech during the opening ceremony in which he expressed his appreciation to H.R.H. the Prime Minister for his patronage of the event, and thanked H.E. Shaikh Khalid for inaugurating the accompanying exhibition. Sustainability in the energy industry has always been a key issue, and it was gaining even more focus for oil producer countries in this unpredictable fuel price scenario, he said.



The Minister said, “It is encouraging to see the conference highlighted environment friendly technologies, advanced trends in carbon capture and enhanced oil recovery in the field of petrochemicals and refining. This would motivate refiners to add the value of the residual fuel oil, as well as to take advantage of advanced technology.”



The Conference Chairman, Mr. Ahmad Al Khowaiter, in his speech, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to H.R.H. the Prime Minister for patronising the event held every two years in the Kingdom, praising the support provided by the Government of Bahrain for a series since its launch in 1992.



H.E. Shaikh Khalid inaugurated the exhibition and met a number of international exhibitors and participants from Saudi Aramco, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Saudi Council of Engineers, and other companies that offer cutting-edge technology in the production of petrochemical products.
