Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, received in his Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) office Engineer Majed Nasser Sharaf, President of the Bahrain Consumer Protection Society (BCPS), accompanied by association member Dr. Munther Naaman Al Shorbaji. The meeting was also attended by Eng. Abdul Aziz Abdul Qader, Oil Projects Consultant at the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA).

The Minister praised the role of BCPS and its key role in the welfare of the citizens. He discussed with the delegation several topics related to the role of the society and its efforts. They also discussed new specifications for safety valves of gas cylinders and the need to stop import of safety valves underlining the importance of ensuring gas distributors used proper valves in gas cylinders to release excess pressure in order to preserve the safety of consumers from the risk of cylinder explosion. They also discussed the possibility of unifying LPG cylinder specifications, safety of refuelling stations and consumer protection.

NOGA confirmed there was no truth in the recent reports on the imposition of any new hike in the price of gas cylinders as reported in some newspapers. Pointing out his happiness in negating the reports, he said, on the contrary NOGA did not impose any fees, but under the guidance of Bahrain’s esteemed government provided necessary support to the citizens regarding liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, used by all types of consumers.

Engineer Majed thanked H.E. Dr. Mirza for the meeting and expressed his appreciation for the warm reception, the quick responses provided by him at the meeting and for clarifying many consumer issues, including the LPG cylinder news report. He thanked the Minister for his admirable cooperation with the society in the interest and service of the general public.
