Dr Mohamed bin Mubarak Bin Dainah, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, planted several trees in the Dohat Arad Park and Reserve, in support of the National Action Plan initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality, announced by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and under the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to establish the National Tree Week each year in the third week of October.
The minister highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to launching and supporting initiatives to preserve environmental resources. He noted that National Tree Week strengthens these initiatives in line with the afforestation plan, which aims to double the number of trees in the Kingdom to 3.6 million by 2035, demonstrating Bahrain’s commitment to fulfilling its environmental obligations towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
The minister highlighted that National Tree Week encourages community responsibility and environmental security by promoting eco-friendly practices and expanding green spaces.
He emphasised the Supreme Council for the Environment’s (SCE) commitment to supporting environmental awareness initiatives, coordinating with government and private entities, and encouraging the preservation of plant life, nature, and social responsibility for public spaces, parks, and walkways.
The initiative also aims to raise awareness of plant species suitable for Bahrain’s climate and environment, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, contributing to climate improvement, temperature reduction, and the preservation of the biodiversity of native plants.
