The Minister of Oil inaugurates the Ethylene Middle East Technology Conference and Exhibition (EMET)

H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil, inaugurated on Wednesday, 13 February 2019, the Ethylene Middle East Technology Conference and Exhibition (EMET), held at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre under the slogan "Enhancing competitiveness through energy efficiency, cost effectiveness and reliability assets and human capital". Where this major event is organized by the Middle East Energy Events Company in cooperation and coordination with the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and with the support from a number of local, regional and international companies with the presence of over 1,000 participants from experts, engineers, interested, executives, institutes and related specialized universities.

H.E. the Minister of Oil expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for the efforts, the positive support and the keen interest provided by the government under the leadership of H.M. the King, for supporting such global events. The results of which are due to the support of the economic, cognitive and development system, to establish a system of exchange of information, experience and expertise, to participate in capacity-building and skills and to contribute to the enhancement of the efficiency of the human element, which is essential for the promotion of sustainable development in the Kingdom of Bahrain. H.E. the Minister of Oil praised the organizing committee for choosing the Kingdom of Bahrain for hosting this conference, because of the Kingdom good reputation in hosting such international events specialized in oil and industrial topics.

H.E. the Minister of Oil said that the Arabian Gulf region is of great importance in the world of petrochemical industry, it represents the main supplier of ethylene in the world, noting that the Middle East region will see a global growth to be an important centre in the ethylene industry because of its ability to provide raw materials and global competition. Noting the importance of focusing on sharing operational efficiencies and excellence and providing opportunities for those interested to enhance technical knowledge and empower them in senior positions in their corporate hierarchy. H.E. stressed that the best way to identify profitable ways in the future of the ethylene market is to understand the trends and impending shifts in the dynamics of this important industry.

In a related context, H.E. the Minister stressed the importance of sustainability of the bio-petrochemical sector, which plays a key role in achieving global competitive advantage by attracting skills and manpower. As well as meeting the requirements and expectations of customers that undoubtedly contribute to reducing costs, which stresses that sustainability is the only way to ensure the continuity of success and prosperity.

At the end of his opening address, H.E. the Minister of Oil thanked the Middle East Energy Events Company and the chairman of the Conference, Mr. Metab Al Shammari, General Manager of Petrochemical of SABIC, and all members of the organizing committee, sponsors, all the supporting agencies and exhibitors on the efforts made to bring this conference to a professional level.

Mr. Metab Al Shammari, expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to H.E. the Minister of Oil, for his support for this important event. Mr. Al Shammari discussed the importance of sharing solutions with different personalities participating in this important event from suppliers of products, services, operators and specialists to understand the trends, developments and constantly evolving solutions to the challenges faced by the ethylene industry.

The events of the conference and the accompanying exhibition included a distinct program through which scientific research and practical experiments were presented and discussed by global speakers, executives, and senior officials of oil companies and other related companies. The most important topics are: competitive landscape to the changing petrochemical in the GCC countries, the importance of operational excellence in chemicals in the Middle East, crude oil to chemicals, linear programming techniques and other important topics.

Moreover, H.E. the Minister of Oil, accompanied by a number of senior officials in local, regional and international companies, opened the accompanying exhibition and met with a large number of participants in order to exchange information and experience the latest modern technology and best practices in this dynamic industry. A number of specialized companies have participated in this important event, including SABIC, Chevron Philips Chemical Company, KBR Technology Company, Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), Tatweer Petroleum Company, Bahrain National Gas Company (Banagas), Gulf Downstream Association (GDA), and other international exhibitors and specialized universities. As there were more than 1,000 participants from 20 countries across the world, that have been involved in this major event.
