Minister of Energy addresses International Federation of Training and Development Conference

Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza congratulated His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa for receiving the ‘Outstanding Leader Award-2016’ bestowed upon him by the International Federation of Training and Development Organisations (IFTDO), during a speech delivered at the opening of the 45th International Training Conference and Exhibition. The event was hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain under the Patronage of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister, where the Energy Minister was a key speaker for the first day of the conference held at Crowne Plaza Hotel from 21 - March 23. It was organized by The event is organized by the Bahrain Society for Training and Development (BSTD), in cooperation with the International Union for Training with Tamkeen as the Strategic Partner for the event, which discussed the effectiveness of empowerment in the presence of a remarkable high-level international gathering.



H.E. Dr. Mirza expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Royal Highness the Prime Minister for his patronage of the important event. He also thanked His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister for honoring the attendees and expressed his appreciation to Dr. Nasser Al Nafisi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, Dr. Ebrahim bin Khalifa Al Dosari Honorary President of the Bahrain Society for Human Resources Development and Mr. Mohamed Mohamud Al Shaikh, Chairman of the Bahrain Society for training and human resources development for inviting him to address the international event. The Minister also thanked Mr. Ahmed Al Banna CEO of Origin Group.



H.E. Dr. Mirza reviewed the six key themes learned from institutions and successful companies and the world's best leadership practices. He talked about the most important challenges facing today's leaders in various business environments and changes in management theories citing examples of best global practices and modern applications of successful institutional experiences at the local and global levels.



The Minister quoted from the famous book ‘In Search of Excellence, written by Tom Peters and Robert H. Waterman, Jr. in 1982, where they reviewed the results of the study on 62 successful US companies representing a broad spectrum of industries. The study showed that successful companies had eight common themes responsible for their success. They were a bias for action, active decision making, quick decision making and problem solving avoiding bureaucratic control, close customer care- learning from the people served by the business, autonomy and entrepreneurship - fostering innovation and nurturing champions, productivity through people- treating rank and file employees as a source of quality, hands-on, value-driven - management philosophy that guides everyday practice - management showing its commitment, staying with the business they know, simple form, lean staff, and simultaneous loose-tight properties - autonomy in shop-floor activities plus centralized values.



The minister reviewed the most important foreign and global challenges that leaders face, including geopolitical and financial recession, as well as technological and environmental challenges. As well as the vision and national aspirations and that fall beneath the economic aspirations and social and political aspirations of the government and aspirations as well as strategic plans and personal values ​​alike.



At the conclusion, the Minister expressed his appreciation to the organizers and wished them all success. He wished the participating delegations and international exhibitors a pleasant stay and enjoying the hospitality and heritage of Bahrain.



H.E. Dr. Mirza opened the exhibition, participated by 20 companies who showcased their latest offerings, and research findings in the field of training and management development.



This is the second time Bahrain hosted the IFTDO conference having hosted it first in 2002 under the patronage of the Prime Minister. Geneva-based IFTDO was founded in 1972, and has a membership of more than half a million from around the world. Its annual conferences are held world over, including Europe, Asia , the Middle East and the US.
