Minister of Energy Receives Dubai Carbon delegation led by company CEO

Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza received in his NOGA office on February 16, the Chief Executive of Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence Mr. Ivano Iannelli who was accompanied by Technical Director Mr. Thomas Bosse and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA) programme officer Dr Abdul Majid Haddad. The NOGA General Secretary Dr. Ahmed Ali Al Sharyan and Engineer Hussain Makki, Acting Director of Studies and International Relations attended the meeting.



The Minister welcomed the delegation and prised their work of preliminary assessment in order to prepare a program to manage carbon in the oil sector companies, including an inventory of greenhouse gases and other essential reports.



H.E. Dr. Mirza said the meeting followed the directives of the wise leadership of the Kingdom of Bahrain to follow up the implementation of the 21 session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change meeting held in Paris, which set out measures for committed member states to reduce greenhouse gases on a global scale and a commitment to issue a status report every 5 years.



He said the project was an extension of the existing cooperation between NOGA and UNEP, which was sealed with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two sides on May 19, 2015.



Mr. Iannelli and Dr. Haddad expressed their gratitude and appreciation to H.E. Dr. Mirza for the warm reception and discussion on topics of mutual interest. They said they looked forward to completing the program implementation for the common benefit and in public interest.



The visiting delegation also held meetings with representatives of nogaholding, and various NOGA subsidiary oil companies to discuss a proposed climate change strategy for the oil and gas sector, which will be the starting point for the preparation of a comprehensive national strategy draft framework.
