In line with the directives of the leadership, Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Chairman of Tatweer Petroleum Company, opened new facilities located in Bahrain Field.

The Minister was accompanied by H.E. Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Governor of the Southern Governorate and members of Tatweer Board of Directors, officials from the National Oil and Gas Authority, nogaholding, Electricity & Water Authority and Bapco. He inaugurated a new Solar Power Plant, a pilot electrical submersible pumps unit and a high volume lift system.

H.E. Dr. Mirza's praised Tatweer for completing the milestones. He said the company continued to make exceptional progress in developing Bahrain Field and the new facilities demonstrated its commitment to conserve the Kingdom’s natural resources and protect the environment while continuing to contribute to the economic growth of Bahrain.

Tatweer’s new 1 Megawatt solar power plant will supply 10% of the company’s power consumption. The solar energy panels connect to the company’s power grid and supply enough power to the head office. During weekends, and times of low use, excess power will be fed back into the Tatweer power grid for use in oil field operations.

The High Volume Lift System is an artificial method now used in the Bahrain Field to improve well productivity. The new process uses electrical submersible pumps recently installed by Tatweer to successfully triple oil production from these wells.

Tatweer produced the first ever extra-heavy oil from Aruma oil reservoir. The Aruma is the shallowest oil reservoir in the Bahrain Field and contains viscid oil never previously exploited. It is being extracted by injecting steam and lifting oil to the surface with hi-tech submersible electrical pumps. Tatweer also successfully completed pilot thermal units in Khuff gas reservoirs and deep pre-Khuff reservoirs. All these enhanced oil recovery projects were aimed to increase the production potential and contribute majorly to Bahrain’s future oil production.
