Energy Minister attends meeting of OPEC and non-OPEC countries in Doha

At the invitation of the Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar, Energy Minister His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza attended a meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and non-OPEC countries held on April 17 at the Sheraton Hotel, Doha. The meeting was attended by 18 ministers in charge of oil affairs in their respective countries. Participating countries included Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Russia, Nigeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iraq, Indonesia, Mexico, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, as well as Trinidad and Tobago. The key meeting came at a time of rising global market challenges due to oil price drop and its impact on world economy. Participating countries discussed ways to restore balance in the world oil market.



Qatar’s H.H Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani conveyed his greetings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain during a meeting with H. E. Dr. Mirza in his office, which was also attended by His Excellency Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Qatar, who hosted a luncheon in honour of the participating ministers.



H.E. Dr. Mirza held several meetings on the sidelines of the Doha convention including one with Engineer Ali Al Naimi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Mohammed Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar, in addition to ministers of Russia, Mexico and Venezuela.



Qatari Energy Minister Dr. Al Sada announced at the end of the meeting that the representatives of participating countries needed “more time” for consultations, and would look at the market situation during the next OPEC meeting in June.
