His Excellency the Minister of Oil inaugurates the
21st Meeting of the Green Climate Fund
H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil, inaugurated the 21st meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) on Wednesday, October 17 2018, at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain, in the presence of the GCF board of directors and representatives of official states and relevant international organizations from various countries of the world to facilitate the access of financial resources to projects in the field of climate change. H.E. welcomed the guests and wished them a pleasant stay in the Kingdom of Bahrain, hoping to achieve their strategic objectives.
H.E. the Minister of Oil congratulated H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country; in having the Kingdom of Bahrain introduce the 21st meeting of the GCF as the first Gulf country.
H.E. the Minister also gratitude to H.R.H. Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, for his continued support for all the activities of the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) on the land of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to become a global milestone; praising the support of H.R.H. Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, for his guidance and continued follow-up to this important global event.
H.E. the Minister conveyed the gratitude of the leadership to all the participants for this important global event and wished them success in the meeting, hoping that their participation in this meeting will address the phenomenon of climate change; which takes on the greatest interest in discussions of presidents and ministers in international forums and meetings. Especially as the GCF represents an important financing mechanism for developing countries to implement sustainable development projects in the areas of adaptation, mitigation of climate change and fulfilment of their commitments to the Paris climate agreement.
Moreover, H.E. the Minister said that the Kingdom of Bahrain has witnessed a great development, under the leadership of H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, and H.R.H. Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, and H.R.H. Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister; and an advanced steps in the field of oil and gas industry, which is the main source of the national economy for the development of the Kingdom of Bahrain to be the most advanced and modern countries in the world.
H.E. the Minister of Oil highly appreciated the role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain at the regional and international level, in addressing the phenomenon of climatic changes. The active participation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in international diplomacy aimed at implementing what was agreed in the Paris climate agreement by the year 2020.
On the other hand, H.E. the Minister of Oil praised the tireless efforts of NOGA's team in hosting this important event, which indicates the Kingdom of Bahrain good reputation and the tireless efforts in the areas of adaptation and mitigating of the effects of changes and fulfilment of their commitments to the Paris climate agreement. The Kingdom of Bahrain has excelled in the international and middle eastern region in the industry of conferences and specialized exhibitions. H.E. noted the importance of meetings and side events between participants and specialists in this important global event as a unique and high-level platform to share knowledge, opinions and experiences.
It should be noted that the GCF was established at the Sixteenth Conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2010. The headquarters of its secretariat is located in Songdo, Incheon, West Seoul, South Korea, where the fund promotes a paradigm shift towards low-emission development pathways adaptable to climate change. The GCF provides fund and support to the developing countries, in order to reduce Greenhouse gases (GHG), emissions of harmful gases and to adapt to the effects of climate change. It is supervised by 24 members from the board of directors of various nationalities representing developing and equally developed countries, to help developing countries to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Projects and programs proposed by developing countries are financed while ensuring that they are managed in a transparent manner, as funds available within the GCF, as a whole, are voluntary contributions from developed countries as well as contributions from a number of developing countries.
