Energy Minister receives Bahrain Fishermen's Society delegation

Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza met in his NOGA office on February 2 a Bahrain Fishermen's Society delegation led by Mr. Jassim Mohammed. Dr. Ahmed Ali Al Sharyan, the General Secretary of the National Oil and Gas Authority and Engineer Jassim Isa Al Shirawi, General Manager of Oil and Gas Affairs were present at the meeting.



The Minister welcomed the society chairman and members and applauded the role of fishermen in providing food to the public and for their key contributions, calling fisheries a leading food source. He praised the contribution of the society in preserving fishing, a key Bahraini heritage, as an occupation. He said fishing was still an important economic activity in the country, which the esteemed government sought to develop and protect those pursuing it.



The delegation discussed with the Minister several relevant topics including shifting fuel prices and their impact on fish price. The Minister reassured the delegation that fishermen were highly appreciated by the government and were being given much attention and care. He said the government would continue to harness all possible support to develop the fisheries sector and protect fish stocks in the country. He pointed out that the esteemed government has clearly stated its priorities by providing direct support to fishermen with the announcement of modified diesel prices in the local market.



The Minister shared with the delegation his efforts and suggestions that led to the government decision to modify the price of many oil products and services in the light of the fuel price fall in global markets which led to amended fuel prices by countries in the region. He agreed to continue to meet the fishermen society representatives to discuss oil and gas prices in order to remain updated with regards to the fishing industry.



The delegation thanked the Minister and expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the topics discussed. The members expressed hope for continued government support for fishermen in the future as well.
