Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, underlined the role of Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Company (ASRY) in positioning Bahrain as a regional ship recycling hub.
During a visit to ASRY, the minister said ASRY's development was aligned with Bahrain's efforts to implement sustainable development goals on national, regional and international levels.
The minister noted that the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), within its capacity to support sustainability goals, oversees that recycling ships and marine vessels operations are conducted according to environmental standards and best practices.
ASRY had announced that it would include ship dismantling and recycling as one of its core activities, after achieving all the requirements of the three environmental international sets of standards that regulate ship-recycling activities. Those are the Hong Kong International Convention for Safe and Environmentally Sound Ship Recycling, the EU's Ship Recycling Regulation, and the ISO 30000 Ship Recycling Management Systems Standard.
